Rental Age & Requirements

Renters must be at least 21 years old. Drivers under 25 are subject to a young driver fee of $30/day (waived for members). Drivers under 21 with a valid license may be considered on a case-by-case basis — a fee of $50/day applies (members $30/day), and proof of valid insurance is required.
A valid driver's license is required. International drivers must present an International Driver's Permit.
A valid credit card or debit card is required for payment and security deposit. Alaska Native clients and members are not required to provide a return itinerary. For local Anchorage renters, we may ask for the purpose of the rental and may require supporting documentation depending on the situation.

Airport Shuttle & Getting to Our Office

Taking a taxi to our office avoids the 15% airport concession tax. If you are not arriving from the airport, please refer to local taxi or Uber rates to our office at 3703 Spenard Rd, Anchorage, AK 99503.

Vehicle Delivery

We offer free vehicle delivery to ANC Airport, Merrifield Airport, Alaska Native Medical Center, hotels, Airbnbs, and homes (members only — standard delivery fee of $30 applies for non-members). Delivery includes a full check-in at your location — no counter wait, no office trip, no airport taxi needed. Your vehicle is ready the moment you land.
Please note: vehicle delivery is subject to driver availability and cannot be guaranteed for every trip. If we are unable to fulfill a delivery for a non-member who paid the $30 delivery fee, a full refund of the delivery fee will be issued. For members (who receive free delivery as a benefit), a $15 discount will be applied to the total rental balance if delivery cannot be fulfilled — this discount cannot be exchanged for cash.
For member airport delivery: our driver will pick you up at the airport in your rental vehicle — no car swap needed. The full check-in process, including vehicle inspection and photos, is completed once we return to our office. Airport pickup zones only allow brief stops and do not permit a full inspection and photo documentation on-site.

Vehicle Drop-Off & Return Transport

Standard return process: return the vehicle to our office first, complete the return inspection, and we will then drive you to the airport, your hotel, or any other destination in the same vehicle — no car swap needed. For airport drop-offs, we will take you directly to the terminal entrance at your airline's door. This post-return drop-off service is $30 per trip ($20 for members).
If you need us to pick up the vehicle from your location (hotel, Airbnb, etc.), the fee is $40 per trip ($30 for members). This rate reflects the additional cost of sending a second driver and a second vehicle to retrieve your rental.

Reservation & Payment

Full payment is collected at the time of booking to secure your reservation.
Cancellations made more than 2 days (48 hours) before your pickup date are eligible for a full refund.
Cancellations made within 2 days of your pickup date will incur a cancellation fee equal to 1 day's rental rate or $100 — whichever is greater. The remaining balance will be refunded.
Rates are based on rental duration and vehicle type. Additional charges may apply for late returns, additional drivers, insurance, or special equipment.

One-Way Pickups & Drop-Offs

We offer one-way drop-offs and pickups to many locations across Alaska. One-way fees apply — for example, Anchorage to/from Whittier is $200/trip ($180 for members).
We can accommodate cities not listed during reservation — contact us for details.

Mileage

All rentals include 200 miles per day at no extra charge. An unlimited mileage upgrade is available free of charge for all renters — simply request it at the time of booking.
For rentals with exceptionally high mileage usage, additional charges may apply on a case-by-case basis. We will always discuss this with you before any charges are made.

Road Restrictions

The following roads are prohibited: Dalton Hwy (north of Fairbanks), Dempster Hwy (north of Dawson City), Campbell Hwy (east of Carmack), Elliott Hwy (north of Livengood), McCarthy Road, and Elliott Hwy to Deadhorse.
All off-road driving is strictly prohibited.
Use common sense on Alaska roads — if you feel a road might damage the vehicle, it probably will.

Driver Responsibilities

The renter is responsible for the vehicle during the rental period, including any damages, accidents, or theft.
All drivers must abide by local traffic laws and use the vehicle safely and legally at all times.
Smoking in the vehicle is strictly prohibited.

Insurance & Protection

We do not offer standalone insurance coverage for U.S. residents. U.S. residents must provide proof of their own full coverage insurance (including Comprehensive and Collision) at pickup — policy number and current expiration date required.
By renting without purchasing our Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), the renter agrees to assume full insurance responsibility for the vehicle during the rental period. We assume all renters who have not purchased our CDW carry their own valid insurance. It is the renter's sole responsibility to verify with their own insurance provider that their policy covers rental vehicles.
Our optional CDW has a $2,500 deductible. Important: the CDW is a damage waiver only — it is not insurance and does not replace your own insurance policy. The CDW covers collision damage to the rental vehicle only.
The CDW does not cover: (1) third-party liability or property damage claims; (2) loss of income — calculated as the vehicle's average daily rental rate multiplied by the estimated repair days (per shop estimate) multiplied by an 80% fleet utilization rate; (3) a $200 administrative handling fee per claim.
The renter's own insurance is the primary coverage in the event of any accident or damage. Our CDW applies only after the renter's insurance has been exhausted up to the $2,500 deductible.

All renters are required to have a valid credit or debit card on file. By signing the rental agreement, the renter authorizes Alaska Native Car Rental to charge the card on file for any damages, losses, fees, or costs incurred during the rental period, including but not limited to collision damage, third-party liability, loss of income, and administrative fees.

Fuel Policy

All vehicles are rented with a full tank of gas and must be returned with a full tank.
If returned with less than a full tank, you will be charged for the cost of the missing fuel plus a $15 refueling service fee. Members are charged a reduced $10 service fee.
Fuel charges are non-refundable.

Late Returns & Overtime Fees

Each rental day is calculated as a 24-hour period from the time of pickup. A grace period applies after the 24-hour mark before overtime charges begin.
Standard renters receive a 30-minute grace period at no charge. After the grace period, overtime is charged at $30/hour for each additional hour.
Members receive an extended 2-hour grace period at no charge for late returns. Members may also pick up their vehicle up to 2 hours early at no charge. After the 2-hour grace period, the same $30/hour overtime rate applies.
Early pickup for standard renters (before the scheduled reservation time) is available at $20/hour.
If the total overtime exceeds 4 hours (for any renter), a full additional day's rental rate will be charged instead of hourly fees.
Please contact us in advance if you anticipate a late return — we will do our best to accommodate schedule changes based on availability.

Early Returns & Refund Policy

If you return the vehicle earlier than the contracted return date and time, a refund may apply depending on how far in advance the vehicle is returned.
Early returns of less than 48 hours before the contracted return time are not eligible for any refund. No credit or partial refund will be issued for unused rental days within this window.
Early returns of 48 hours or more before the contracted return time are eligible for a partial refund. The refund will be calculated as follows: the total rental charge minus 2 full days of rental fees (at the applicable daily rate) minus any fees already incurred. The remaining balance will be refunded to the original payment method.
In other words, a 2-day early-return fee is always retained regardless of how far in advance the vehicle is returned. This covers administrative costs and the impact on fleet availability.
To qualify for an early return refund, you must notify us by phone or text before returning the vehicle. Unannounced early returns will be treated as same-day returns and are not eligible for a refund.
Refunds are processed within 5–10 business days to the original payment method. Members receive priority processing within 3–5 business days.

Additional Drivers

Additional drivers are allowed for a fee of $30/trip per driver, provided they meet the same rental requirements and are listed on the rental agreement.
Members enjoy no additional driver fees for all listed drivers.

Cancellation & Modifications

Cancellations are allowed at any time after reservation confirmation. The 20% deposit is non-refundable after 24 hours from initial reservation.
Modifications such as extending the rental period or changing vehicle type are subject to availability and may result in rate changes — contact us.

Damage & Theft

The renter is responsible for all damage to the vehicle during the rental period, including accidents, vandalism, or theft, unless comprehensive insurance coverage has been purchased.
In case of theft or accident, immediately report the incident to local police and Alaska Native Car Rental. Failure to report will void the rental agreement.

Vehicle Condition & Return

All vehicles are rented in clean, good working condition and must be returned in the same condition.
Additional fees may apply upon return for: smoking in the vehicle, excessive trash, or pet hair.
The vehicle must be returned to Alaska Native Car Rental at the specified location during business hours, unless prior arrangements have been made for after-hours returns.

Prohibited Uses

Towing another vehicle or trailer.
Participating in racing, off-roading, or reckless driving.
Transporting illegal goods or substances.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Liability

Alaska Native Car Rental is not responsible for any loss, injury, or damage to the renter, passengers, or third parties unless caused by the company's negligence.
The renter agrees to hold harmless Alaska Native Car Rental and its employees from any claims arising from their use of the vehicle.

Rent-to-Own Program

All vehicles in our fleet are available for purchase through our Rent-to-Own program. Vehicle pricing is based on condition and referenced against Kelley Blue Book (KBB) market value. Contact us for current pricing on any specific vehicle.
To enter the Rent-to-Own program, a minimum down payment of 35% of the vehicle purchase price is required. Additional down payments may be made at any time — each additional payment must be at least 5% of the total vehicle price.
This is not a bank loan or financing arrangement. Until the full purchase price has been accumulated through buying credits, the vehicle title and ownership remain with Alaska Native Car Rental.
How buying credit works: the percentage of your rent that counts toward the vehicle purchase equals your current down payment percentage. For example, if you have paid 35% down, then 35% of each rental payment is credited toward the purchase price and 65% is applied as standard rent. As your down payment percentage increases, so does the portion of rent credited toward ownership. Buying credits cannot be applied to reduce your rental payments and cannot be redeemed for cash.
Once you have accumulated sufficient buying credits to cover the full remaining purchase price, ownership of the vehicle will be transferred to you.
Upon signing the Rent-to-Own agreement, the renter assumes full responsibility for all vehicle maintenance and upkeep for the duration of the program.
Late payment policy: if rent is unpaid for more than 7 days, the outstanding rental amount will be deducted from the down payment balance, and a late fee of $20/day will accrue from the first day of non-payment.
If rent remains unpaid for more than 14 days, all accumulated buying credits are forfeited.
If rent remains unpaid for more than 21 days, the vehicle will be repossessed. The down payment balance will be applied to cover: all outstanding rent owed, repossession and recovery costs, and a $300 administrative repossession fee. Any remaining balance after these deductions will be forfeited.
The Rent-to-Own program requires a separate written agreement. Please contact us to discuss eligibility and available vehicles.
